Common Reasons for Problems with Vinyl Siding

As a homeowner, you are probably well aware of just how important proper siding is for your home. Not only does it help make your home look nice and inviting, but it also keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Not to mention, it also keeps you, your loved ones and your belongings safe from the outdoor elements. We are siding replacement experts in Bloomington and the surrounding areas, and here are several different reasons we are called to help people with their vinyl siding.

When you had your siding installed, if it was not done correctly, then it can warp or buckle. This is usually a result of siding that was nailed too tightly onto the side of your home. You might assume that a siding replacement means the vinyl should be nailed as tightly to your home as possible, but this is not the case.

There needs to be some give and leeway in order for the vinyl to have room to expand and contract because of the variances in the outdoor air temperature and moisture. You can test this yourself by grabbing a panel and trying to move it. If the panel moves about a half-inch each way, it is probably fine. But if the panel does not budge, then the siding was put on too tightly and you might need to look into siding replacement.

Also when your vinyl siding was installed, there should have been a waterproof barrier put in between the siding and the wall of your house. Vinyl is not waterproof by itself, so this barrier is extremely important to help keep your home free of leaks and other problems that result from an excess amount of moisture.

Are you noticing mold or algae growing on your siding? Mold will look like gray or white powder that has small black spots in it. Algae looks like a black, gray or green discoloration all over your siding. These issues usually result in siding that does not get a lot of sunlight or that already has moisture issues. These problems can usually be fixed by removing shrubs or plants that are blocking sunlight from hitting the siding and then having siding replacement experts come out and replace the siding that has mold or algae growing on it.
