No roof is forever, and there will come a point in time when repairs will no longer work and it’s time to have a new roof installed. How can you tell your roof has reached the end of its life? Here are three ways to tell if the time has come to replace it:
Have the roof inspected
Inspecting the roof is one of the best ways to answer your question. It’s recommended that your roof being inspected twice a year: once each in the fall and spring. It’s best to begin inside the home and to take a look at the attic. The inspector will need to look for:
- Roof deck sagging
- Water damage/leaking signs
- Dark ceiling spots and trails
- Outside lights coming through
If any of these are found, you’ll need to give us a call to see how severe the damage is. We can go from there and determine whether your roof needs replaced.
Take a look outside
By looking at the outside of the roof, you can get another good indicator of whether it’s roof replacement time. Check for things like damaged flashing, missing shingles, blistering, algae growth, rotting, buckling and other signs of disrepair. If any of these are found, then get in touch with us so we can ascertain the extent of the damage and whether the roof is worth saving.
Consider age and repair costs
It might seem better financially to just keep shelling out for repair costs, but if repairs are becoming a regular part of your life, are they worth it? All roofs will need to be replaced at some point, so you need to consider the roof’s age and if it’s too old to remain on your home.
